MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) - The Labour Party's new leader Ed Miliband attacked government plans for deep spending cuts and signalled a tough line on banks on Sunday but denied he would "lurch to the left" or be a stooge of the unions.

New York Film Festival kicks off

NEW YORK, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The 48th New York Film Festival opened on Friday night at Lincoln Center with David Fincher's latest movie "The Social Network" as the premier screening.

Panama seizes some 8 tons of cocaine in 48 hours

PANAMA CITY, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Panamanian police have seized nearly eight tons of cocaine in two operations in the past 48 hours, said a spokesman of the National Aeronavel Service (SENAN) on Saturday.

According to the SENAN, the second seizure occurred Friday on the Atlantic coast with an amount of almost five tons of cocaine, a record quantity so far this year, following a seizure of three tons of cocaine on Thursday.

2 killed in suspected honor killing in northern India

NEW DELHI, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- In a suspected case of honor killing, two decomposed bodies of a couple have been found in the northern Indian state of Haryana, a senior police official said Sunday.

"The bodies were of a couple who had recently eloped. The bodies were found in a field in the state's Sirsa district. The victims have been identified as Inderpal and Maya who were last seen on Sept. 17. The case seems to be that of honor killing," the official said.

Essex County prosecutor officer said that Jessica Moore, a 19-year-old Seton Hall University student in New Jersey, was convinced dead from her injuries at 3:20 p.m. local time.
