EVERYDAY HEALTH - Fact and Fiction About HIV Transmission - HIV/AIDS Center, Nov 08, 2011

- Everyday Health: "Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the virus that causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), a potentially life-threatening condition that leaves your body prone to infections if left untreated. There are a lot of myths about how HIV is spread from person to person — but what are the facts?
"The No. 1 way that HIV is spread is through the exchange of HIV positive body fluids — especially genital secretions — that occurs during sexual contact," explains Robert Grossberg, MD, medical director of the Center for Positive Living and the Infectious Disease Clinic at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx in New York City.
