THE TIMES - Hubble takes the long view — about 10 billion years, Apr 05, 2013

The supernova, designated SN UDS10Wil, belongs to a special class of exploding stars known as Type Ia supernovae, and is the furthest ever seen
"Astronomers have glimpsed further back in time than ever before after the Hubble Space Telescope captured images of a star explosion that took place 10 billion years ago. Supernova UDS10Wil is so far from Earth that it took 10 billion years for the light from the explosion to reach our planet, beating the previous record for such a sighting by 350 million years. "
