WEBMD - The Mediterranean Diet Review, Jan 10, 2012

"The Mediterranean diet has long been considered one of the healthiest diets on the planet - and rightfully so.
For thousands of years, residents along the Mediterranean coast have enjoyed the delicious diet, leisurely dining, and engaging in regular physical activity. They don’t think of their eating habits as a diet plan; it’s simply a way of life that can lead to long, healthy lives with less chance of chronic disease."

WEBMD - Weight Loss Surgery May Prevent Heart-Related Deaths, Jan 10, 2012

stomach
"Jan. 3, 2012 -- Weight loss surgery lowers the risk of having a heart attack or stroke, and the risk of death from these and other heart-related causes, in people who are obese, according to new research in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
The findings come from an ongoing Swedish study comparing long-term outcomes among obese patients who did and did not have the surgery.
Over an average of 14 years of follow-up, the bariatric surgery patients lost much more weight and had fewer heart attacks and strokes than people who did not have the surgery.
They were also almost half as likely to die of heart attacks and strokes."

Olive Oil: Is Extra Virgin Healthier?, Jan 10, 2012

Olive Oil: Is Extra Virgin Healthier?: "Olive oil is touted for its health benefits in many diet books and recipes. But is it really the nectar of the gods that it’s made out to be -- and is the olive oil in your pantry as healthy as you think it is?
In his book Extra Virginity: The Sublime and Scandalous World of Olive Oil, author Tom Mueller claims that much of the olive oil sold in the U.S. as "extra-virgin" is really adulterated in some way and lacks the health and the taste benefits of real “extra virgin” olive oil."
