Kelis: ‘Everything is Fine With Ex-Husband Nas’

Kelis
SINGER Kelis insists “everything’s fine” between her and ex-husband Nas.
The Milkshake hitmaker — who raises son Knight, 11 months, with the rapper — says the former couple have put their differences aside after settling their bitter divorce battle.
“Everything’s fine. We are divorced, but there is no point to fighting — there is nothing to fight about,” she said. “I am super happy; my life is awesome. We are friends, we get along now and it’s all good.
“After the split, everyone was like, ‘You are going through a rough time, you should write something personal.’ I wear my feelings on my sleeve.
“The hardest decisions are the best ones and for me that was really the case. I am definitely better today than I was a year ago. And I’ll be better next year.”

Robert Pattinson “Flat Broke” Before Twilight

Robert Pattinson
ROBERT Pattinson says he was “flat broke” before landing his breakthrough role in the Twilight movies.
The British actor — who shot to fame playing vampire Edward Cullen in the smash hit film franchise — says he almost quit acting because he needed to find a way to pay his bills.
“I was flat broke,” he said. “If you say you’re an actor and you’re going to auditions and not getting parts, you’re not an actor.”
Rob, 24, recently joked that he wants to start his own religion.
“I definitely want to record an album, direct a film and start my own religion,” he told the German edition of Glamour magazine.
“Well, I definitely wouldn’t have to pay taxes anymore.”

KRISTEN STEWART SAYS HER FIRST LOVE WAS “THE BEST LOVE”

Kristen Stewart
KRISTEN Stewart still thinks about her first love.
The Twilight Saga actress — who is rumored to be dating her costar Robert Pattinson – admits she is still plagued with thoughts about her first boyfriend, even though she was left devastated by their split.
“Everybody says the first cut if the deepest. It’s so true. I don’t know if it’s because it’s the best love, but it’s the first that you remember,” she said.
“There is one boy that I will remember for the rest of my life, and I wouldn’t go as far as to say, ‘Oh I was in love with him and he broke my heart’. You hold on to that, just that first experience, it’s good to have and you should appreciate it, even if it hurts.”
Despite being known for her aversion to fame, Kristen admits one of the biggest perks of her job is her involvement in the fashion industry and access to beautiful clothes. (more…)

HEATHER LOCKLEAR COMPLETES 30-DAY REHAB STINT

Heather Locklear
Congratulations are in order.
ACTRESS Heather Locklear has spent the past month battling her demons — she’s just completed a 30-day, in-patient rehab program for prescription drugs.
According to TMZ, the Melrose Place actress successfully completed the program and is “doing great.”
Sources say Locklear’s decision to seek treatment had nothing to do with her April arrest for hit-and-run.

HUGH LAURIE TO RAISE A SMILE IN THE NEXT SEASON OF HOUSE?

Hugh Laurie
HUGH Laurie is gonna need to learn how to smile!
The British actor says his famously grumpy character in the TV show House might be happy in its next season.
Dr. Gregory House will find love with Lisa Cuddy — and in the season premiere, the couple will be seen laughing, and canoodling on the beach.
“Even the appearance of happiness [in House] has taken some getting used to,” Laurie told Entertainment Weekly magazine.
“I had a week of happiness training before the season started up, and I’m whistling more than usual.
“I’ve always thought of House as a romantic, and I don’t think romantics are much given to comparing.
“But speaking as a friend of House, he seems to be attracted to strong women. He likes to get as good as he gives—and I mean that in as many senses as are suitable for a family readership.”
Laurie has previously revealed how he thought House would fail — and he lived in a hotel room because he was too nervous to buy his own pad. (more…)

CARRIE PREJEAN GETS MARRIED TO NFL STUD BOYFRIEND

Carrie Prejean
CARRIE Prejean is a married woman.
The onetime beauty queen wed her NFL stud boyfriend Kyle Boller in a lavish ceremony in San Diego Friday night.
The couple held their nuptials at Capella Church, located inside the Grand Del Mar Hotel in the bride’s beachy California hometown, in a 25-minute ceremony surrounded by friends and family, according to E! News.
“It was beautiful,” a source said. “They had cocktails on the lawn right after. Everyone seemed really happy.”
Prejean walked down the aisle in a one-shoulder mermaid-style gown while Boller and his fellow groomsmen wore traditional black tuxedos.
Boller, 29, and Prejean, 23, became engaged in February, and have been together since last July.
Prejean first received nationwide attention for an answer she gave during the 2009 Miss USA pageant, in which she stated her belief that marriage should be solely defined as a union between a man and a woman.
A public battle with the producers of the Miss California USA pageant ended in her contract being terminated in June 2009, with K12 productions citing “continued breach of contract issues” as the reason for the termination.

BETTY WHITE TO QUIT HOLLYWOOD OVER SEX PICTURE RUMORS??

Betty White
'BETTY White is not a happy woman!
Sources say the Hollywood legend is furious that the old rumor she has X-rated pictures with her late husband, TV legend Allen Ludden, is doing the rounds again.
“Betty has said all along her comeback seemed too good to be true,” a source close to the 88-year-old told American tabloid the National Enquirer.
“Being dragged into some lurid debate over whether she was ever photographed making love to her dear, departed Al makes her wonder if it’s all worth it.
“She denies there’s any photos, but just the idea tarnishes her memories of her time with the love of her life. It’s like the last straw.
“This could make her retire. She’s absolutely disgusted.” (more…)

VICTORIA BECKHAM URGED TO STICK TO FASHION!!

Victoria Beckham
VICTORIA Beckham has been told to “stick to fashion”.
The former Spice Girls star has been advised by Dane Bowers — whom she collaborated with on the 2000 True Steppers single Out of Your Mind — not to return to the pop industry as her work as a designer is much better than her musical talent.
“I think she should stick to fashion design but she’d probably say that herself,” Dane said. “The whole fashion thing is definitely where her future lies.”
However, the 31-year-old singer insisted Victoria has more vocal ability than she is given credit for.
“She’s the first person to say that she’s no Mariah Carey but she can hold a tune,” he said. “You don’t make it as far as the Spice Girls did if you can’t sing at all”.
Recent reports claimed Victoria — who raises three young sons with her soccer hunk husband David Beckham — is holding up plans for a new Spice Girls reunion.
“The girls are so excited. They are buzzing about getting back together and each have so many new ideas and so much to bring to the table,” a source said last month.
“They are desperate to get Posh on board, but that is the sticking point. Although she’s still so nostalgic about the good old days, she has moved on now and is relishing the fashion world.
“They don’t want to give up on her, but have so many plans. The way things are going they might have to go on without her if she doesn’t come round soon.”

Alexander Skarsgard Scared of Fame

Alexander Skarsgard ALEXANDER Skarsgard admits fame is “scary”.
The 33-year-old actor had his first taste of success at 13 after he appeared in The Dog That Smiled and admits the attention he received afterward almost made him quit acting for good.
“It made feel self-conscious, and I couldn’t deal with it. I didn’t like people recognizing me. Fame was scary,” he said. “When people stared at me in the street, it got confusing. It made me really uncomfortable. Then when I was 20, I decided to give acting one last go.”
Since getting back into acting, the Swedish True Blood heartthrob has also starred in Lady GaGa’s music video for Paparazzi – where he played her boyfriend who attempted to kill her — and has revealed it’s something he would like to do more of because it caused such a sensation.
“You can work on a movie for three months and no one sees it, then you do something like that for six hours and that’s what people talk about,” he said.
“That’s my new career. I’m just going to quit acting and do music videos from now on!”

Kylie Minogue Uses Skype to Stay in Touch With Family

Kylie Minogue
KYLIE Minogue relies on Skype to stay in touch with her family.

The All the Lovers hitmaker — who is dating Spanish model Andres Velencoso — currently resides in London, England, and as the majority of her relatives still live in Melbourne, Australia, she uses the internet video conferencing software to speak to them.
“Obviously, I don’t get to see the family too much because they’re in Australia but we Skype,” Kylie, whose sister Dannii has moved back to Melbourne with her boyfriend Kris Smith to have their first baby.
“We’re a modern family — even my four-year-old nephew. I’m ‘Auntie Kick’ to my nephews.”
The 42-year-old pop star also revealed one of her nephews — the son of her brother Brendan — is obsessed with her live show and she predicts he will follow in the footsteps of her and her singer sister when he gets older.
“I’m ‘Auntie Kick’. Little Charlie, when he wasn’t even a year, came to one of my concerts and he loved it,” she said.
“He loves putting the DVD on. He’s a performer, he’s so musical, we’re like, ‘I know where you’re headed.’ ”
Kylie also spoke of her desire to get on stage when she was just four years old, but was afraid she wouldn’t be able to follow her dream as she got older.
“I knew where I wanted to go in the general sense, I wanted to perform, I loved music from when I was at a music class when I was four, I started acting at 11,” she said.
“But then when I was in high school it got a bit tricky because none of those were presented as careers so I thought I’d have to go and do a business class or something.”

ELIN Nordegren is set to be one seriously wealthy lady!
Just not as a wealthy as the world first thought.
Although the sexy former Swedish model was rumored to be receiving a $750m divorce settlement from her cheating husband Tiger Woods, it is now believed Elin will walk away from the marriage with around $100 million.
“She’ll be getting close to $100,000,000,” a source told TMZ Friday.
Tiger’s net worth is said to be somewhere between $500 and $600 million.
Elin will also receive child support.
Reports earlier this week claimed Elin and Tiger are just days away from finalizing their divorce.
Nordegren met with one of her attorneys for several hours on Tuesday, and again with the same lawyer on Wednesday.

Austrian doctors amputate elderly woman's wrong leg

A 90-YEAR-OLD woman who went to the hospital to get her leg amputated had the wrong limb removed by Austrian doctors.
The newspaper Kleine Zeitung reported that the patient, who was rushed to St. Johann hospital in Tyrol last month suffering vascular disease, had both legs removed after doctors realised they had initially removed the wrong one.

Hospital bosses tried to cover up the incident and when it became public they hid behind their Hippocratic Oath, claiming medical confidentiality.

Prosecutors were expected to begin investigating and the doctors involved could face charges of negligence and causing bodily harm.

In a statement, the hospital said human error as well as a breakdown in safety measures were to blame for the mistake, adding that it would "do everything to guarantee this incident is clarified without fault".

4 killed in USAID compound attack in Afghanistan

July 2, 2010

KABUL, Afghanistan — Six suicide bombers attacked a USAID compound Friday in northern Afghanistan, killing at least four people and wounding several others, officials said. Two of the dead were foreigners.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, which began about 3:30 a.m. when a suicide car bomber detonated a sports utility vehicle at the compound’s entrance. An Afghan security guard was killed in the blast, said Gen. Abdul Razaq Yaqoubi, chief of police in Kunduz province.Five other attackers then stormed a building used by Development Alternatives Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based global consulting company that has a contract with the United States Agency for International Aid, or USAID, to work on governance and community development in the area.
An Afghan policeman and two foreign workers — one from Germany and the other from the Philippines — were killed in the fighting, said Gen. Murad Ali Murad, a commander for the Afghan National Army.
The bodies of five suicide attackers were recovered from two floors of the building.
In Berlin, a spokesman for Germany’s Foreign Ministry confirmed a German citizen had been killed in the Kunduz attack but did not elaborate. He was speaking on condition of anonymity in line with government policy.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told The Associated Press that six suicide bombers attacked a “training center” for Afghan security forces in Kunduz and killed 55 foreigners. The Taliban often exaggerate their claims.
The attack appeared part of a Taliban campaign against development projects at a time when the U.S. and its allies are trying to bolster civilian programs to shore up the Afghan government. On Wednesday, militants rocketed a base for South Korean construction workers in Parwan province but caused no casualties.
In April, a gunman killed an 18-year-old woman working for Development Alternatives, as she left her job in the southern city of Kandahar. Police believed the killing was part of a Taliban campaign against Afghans working for foreign development organizations.
“This attack shows the insurgents’ desire to prevent progress, and draws attention to their true goal of serving themselves rather than the people of Afghanistan,” Navy Capt. Jane Campbell, a spokesman for NATO, said, referring to the Kunduz attack.
Coalition troops provided assistance to Afghan security forces and helped wounded civilians at a nearby NATO base, she said.
Violence is rising in Afghanistan, and concern is growing in Washington and other allied capitals over the direction of the war. The 120,000-member NATO-led force is awaiting the arrival of a new commander, Gen. David Petraeus, who has warned of hard fighting this summer.
The United Nations is relocating a few dozen of its 300 foreign-hired staff because of fears about rising violence.
Last October, three gunmen with automatic weapons and suicide vests stormed a guest house used by U.N. staff in Kabul, killing at least 11 people including five U.N. workers.

Police: 8 killed in Thailand bombings, Jul 02, 2010

July 2, 2010
ASSOCIATED PRESS
PATTANI, Thailand — Suspected Muslim insurgents detonated roadside bombs that killed eight people, including one civilian, in two separate attacks in Thailand’s restive south, police said Friday.
A bomb explosion in Yala province on Friday killed three soldiers in a pickup truck who were sent to fix a water pipe in a village in Yaha district, said police Col. Sawas Tiawirat. On Thursday evening, suspected insurgents detonated a bomb and then shot at security forces on a patrol in Narathiwat province, killing a soldier, two security rangers, a village security guard and a village official, said police Capt. Pairat Kiatcharoensiri.
The suspects stole four rifles before fleeing in the Rue So district of Narathiwat, he said.
More than 4,000 people have been killed in Thailand’s three southernmost provinces since an Islamist insurgency erupted in 2004.
Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala provinces are the only Muslim-majority areas in the predominantly Buddhist country. Muslims there have long complained of discrimination by the central government.
The southern insurgents have made no public pronouncements, but are thought to be fighting for an independent Muslim state. Their attacks target symbols of the state, including soldiers, government-run offices and businesses.

Mexico nabs gang leader in US consulate killing

July 2, 2010

MEXICO CITY — A drug gang leader says he ordered the killing of a U.S. consulate worker because she gave visas to a rival gang in the border city of Ciudad Juarez, federal police said Friday.
Jesus Ernesto Chavez, whose arrest was announced on Friday, leads a band of hit men for a street gang tied to the Juarez cartel, said Ramon Pequeno, the head of anti-narcotics for the Federal Police.Pequeno said Chavez ordered the March 13 attack that killed U.S. consulate employee Lesley Enriquez and her husband as they drove in the violent border city, and he said Chavez told police that Enriquez was targeted because she gave visas to a rival gang.
A U.S. Embassy official said there would no immediate comment on the allegation.
Enriquez, who was four months pregnant, and her husband, Arthur H. Redelfs, were killed when gunmen opened fire on their sport utility vehicle after they left a birthday party. Their 7-month-old daughter was found wailing in the back of the vehicle.
Jorge Alberto Salcido, the husband of a Mexican employee of the consulate, also was killed by gunmen after leaving the same event in a separate vehicle.
Chavez told police that gunmen opened fire on Salcido because the two cars were the same color and the hit men didn’t know which one Enriquez was in, Pequeno said.
Pequeno said Chavez belongs to Barrio Azteca, a gang that works for the Juarez cartel on both sides of the border.
The Juarez cartel’s turf war against the Sinaloa cartel has made Ciudad Juarez one of the deadliest cities in the world. More than 2,600 people were killed last year in the city of 1.3 million people across the border from El Paso, Texas.

The president has just given his first speech on immigration since taking office. Has anything changed?

Best Opinion:  L.A. Times, National Review, Firedoglake
In his first major speech on immigration — a policy priority that has seemingly come "out of nowhere" in the past week — President Obama called for comprehensive reform legislation, including a pathway to citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants. "The question now is, do we have the courage and political will to pass a bill through Congress and finally get it done," the president said, speaking at American University on Thursday. He decried Arizona's yet-to-be-enacted immigration law as "ill-conceived," and called for "one clear national standard." Clearly, this "puts Republicans in a tough spot," say Anna Gorman and Peter Nicholas in the Los Angeles Times. They really can't "afford to write off a Latino community" ahead of the November midterms. But the president didn't offer any specifics, says Mark Krikorian at National Review. "The speech was just one more effort at stringing the open-borders folks along while trying to blame the Republicans for not helping the Democrats pass an amnesty." Below, highlights from Obama's address:
