 "A SPACESHIP backed by Sir Richard Branson has made its first powered flight in a test that moves Virgin Galactic toward its goal of flying into space later this year. While SpaceShipTwo did not break out of the atmosphere during the test flight, it marked a significant milestone for Virgin Galactic, which intends to take passengers on suborbital joyrides. During the early morning flight, SpaceShipTwo, strapped beneath a twin-fuselage jet, took off from an airport runway in the Mojave Desert north of Los Angeles. The jet released SpaceShipTwo, which ignited its engine for 16 seconds, then glided to a safe landing."

 "The rape of a five-year-old in Delhi has sparked new protests in India demanding more action from the government to curb the nation's rape epidemic. Allegedly, local police refused to help find the missing child, who was left for dead for 48 hours after her assault. India has done a lot of soul searching in the wake of a horrible rape and murder last December that exposed a national, pervasive problem with sexual assault against women. The country recently passed new, harsher punishments for rapists, including 20-year mandatory minimum sentences and the death penalty for repeated offenders and in cases where the victim dies."

Canadian company helps World Trade Center's ascent to new heights, Apr 29, 2013

"NEW YORK, N.Y. - One World Trade Center, the skyscraper that replaces the fallen twin towers in New York City, is about to receive the last pieces of its crowning spire, a 124-metre structure built in part in Canada. Officials had hoped that would happen Monday, but the weather did not co-operate and it was postponed due to high winds. The event will be rescheduled when conditions permit. The new tower's crowning spire is a joint venture between the Montreal-based ADF Group Inc. engineering firm and New York-based DCM Erectors Inc., a steel contractor. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says the spire pieces and a steel beacon will be lifted at a later date from the rooftop to cap the building at 541 metres. Installation of the 800-ton spire began in December, after 18 pieces were shipped from Canada and New Jersey. Once the spire is installed, the 104-story highrise, already New York's tallest building, will be just feet from becoming the highest in the Western Hemisphere."
