REUTERS - Berlusconi gets jail sentence in wiretap trial, Mar 07, 2013

"(Reuters) - An Italian court sentenced ex-Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi on Thursday to one year in jail over the publication by his family's newspaper of a transcript of a leaked wiretap connected to a banking scandal in 2006. Italian justice system rules mean the 76-year-old media billionaire would not have to serve any jail time until the appeals process has been exhausted, and a higher court may still overturn the ruling. It came in the middle of a political impasse arising from last week's election which left no party able to form a government on its own, although Berlusconi's centre-right formation emerged as the second strongest in parliament. Berlusconi is in the middle of a series of trials, with separate cases over charges of tax fraud and paying for sex with an underage prostitute due to wind up this month. Following Thursday's verdict, he repeated denials that he was in any way connected with wrongdoing and said the decision showed that politically motivated judges were conducting a campaign against him."

ABC News - Chavez's Body Brought 'Home' to Military Academy, Mar 07, 2013

"Hugo Chavez has been carried back to the military academy where he started his army career, his flag-draped coffin lying in state in the echoing halls as a mile-long (1.5 kilometer-long) line of mourners came to pay homage Thursday to the larger-than-life leader. Cannon boomed a salute each hour as Venezuelans numbering in the hundreds of thousands filed past. "I waited 10 hours to see him, but I am very happy, proud to have seen my comandante," said 46-year-old Yudeth Hurtado, who was weeping. "He is planted in our heart." As a band played the hymn from his first battalion, Chavez's coffin was displayed at the academy after an emotion-drenched procession through Caracas."Products and Services

CURIOSITY ROVER in sleep mode as solar flare heads for Mars, Mar 07, 2013

"On Tuesday, scientists noticed a huge flare erupting from the sun that hurled a stream of radiation in Mars’ direction. The solar burst also spawned a cloud of superheated gas that barreled toward the red planet at 2 million mph. Back to sleep! Image from Nasa The eruption did not appear severe or extreme, but “middle of the road, all things considered” said space weather chief Bob Rutledge at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to the Associated Press."

Business Line- Milky Way’s neighbour galaxy just 163,000 light-years away, Mar 07, 2013

Large Magellanic Cloud: It is a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, that floats in space, in a long and slow dance around our galaxy. Vast clouds of gas within it slowly collapse to form new stars. In turn, these light up the gas clouds in a riot of colors, visible in this image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. (Image Credit: ESA/NASA/Hubble)
"LONDON, MAR 7:   Astronomers have for the first time accurately measured the distance to one of the Milky Way’s neighbouring galaxy — and it is just 163,000 light-years away. Scientists using telescopes at European Southern Observatory’s La Silla Observatory in Chile as well as others around the globe found the dwarf galaxy nearby called the Large Magellanic Cloud, which lies 163,000 light-years away. The new measurement improves scientists’ knowledge of the rate of expansion of the Universe — the Hubble Constant — and is a crucial step towards understanding the nature of the mysterious dark energy that is causing the expansion to accelerate."
