Hulk Hogan, one of the most popular professional wrestlers of all time and a key figure in the launch of WWE, died
Thursday at the age of 71. According to TMZ, an ambulance was called to Hogan’s home in Clearwater, Florida, after he went into cardiac arrest. The legendary wrestler was taken to the hospital by stretcher. “WWE is deeply saddened by the passing of Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan.
One of the most recognizable figures in pop culture, Hogan was instrumental in bringing WWE to global recognition in the 1980s,” the company said in a statement on its X platform, adding: “WWE extends its condolences to his family, friends and fans.”
His real name was Terry Bolea and he was born in 1953 in Augusta, Georgia. Hogan rose to global stardom in the 1980s, when with his patriotic profile and the slogan "Hulkamania" he became the face of the then WWF (now WWE), changing the course of professional wrestling.
Matches such as the one with "Andre the Giant" at WrestleMania III in 1987, remain historic for fans of the sport.
He was the father of two children, Brooke and Nick, from his first marriage to Linda Bolea. The couple divorced in 2007. Subsequently, Hogan married Jennifer McDaniel in 2010, with the marriage ending in 2022. In 2023, he married Skye Daly.
Hogan made a public appearance at the Republican National Convention in July 2024, supporting Donald Trump's candidacy for president.
His final WWE appearance was on January 6, 2025, at the premiere of Raw on Netflix.
