S. Korean star PSY hopes new tune brings Gangnam-style peace with North, Apr 13, 2013

 "SEOUL, South Korea — South Korean rapper PSY says he hopes North Koreans will enjoy his new single even as tensions remain high on the Korean Peninsula. PSY released his latest single, “Gentleman,” in 119 countries on Friday, hoping to replicate the success of “Gangnam Style,” the smash YouTube hit that made him an international star almost overnight last year. The choreography for “Gentleman” — including the “arrogant dance,” as PSY called it — was unveiled at a concert in Seoul on Saturday before more than 50,000 fans. The music video has been uploaded onto YouTube. You can watch it here. PSY, whose real name is Park Jae-sang, said Saturday that he regretted the current tensions between the two Koreas. CHINA, United States to work together to calm down North Korea, Apr 13, 2013

 "Beijing (CNN) -- Following a day of talks, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Chinese leaders said their two nations would work together to press North Korea to tone down its provocations, amid soaring regional tensions. Speaking to reporters in Beijing, Kerry said both the United States and China are calling on North Korea to refrain from any provocative steps -- including any missile launches. But, he said, both nations want to focus on a peaceful solution, not "threat for threat or confrontational language. There's been enough of that." No option was left off the table in his talks with Chinese leaders, he said. Among those he met with Saturday were Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and State Councilor Yang."

 "The secret to a better memory may be as simple as listening to your own brain rhythms while you are snoozing. Previous research suggests when we sleep, we foster the creation of long-term memories. This process occurs when the brain waves create a slow, oscillating rhythm. A new study reveals that if a person listens to audio that coincides with that pattern, they are able to boost their memory skills. Researchers tested 11 healthy students who were asked to spend two nights at a sleep laboratory, where they had electrodes attached to their scalps to measure brain activity. Before they went to bed, the participants were asked to memorize 120 word pairs. On one of the two nights, participants slept while audio that was synced with their specific brain rhythm was played. The second night, audio that was out of sync was played in the background. The audio sounded like a pattern of quiet tones that lasted a fraction of a second. Only a few subjects noticed that there was strange audio while they were sleeping."

"As North Korea prepares a potential missile test and issues threats almost daily, the Obama administration on Saturday looked again for China to force its unruly neighbor to stand down. CBS News correspondent Margaret Brennan, reporting from Beijing, said on "CBS This Morning: Saturday" that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry met with China's president and foreign minister and pushed them to freeze North Korea's accounts so that it can no longer purchase weapons. But, so far that, hasn't worked. Brennan reports China's having its own trouble influencing North Korea. Rising tensions in the Korean peninsula recently led China's president to warn of regional chaos. China's worried that a flood of North Korean refugees will spill across its border if war breaks out. China's also concerned for its security, Brennan reports. A state-owned news service reported that an air raid drill was held in a Chinese town on the North Korean border Friday."

 "A Lion Air passenger plane with over 100 people on board crashed off the coast of Bali when it overran a runway and slammed into the sea. At least 22 people have been transferred to hospital with head wounds and broken bones. No one was killed in the incident, and rescue teams have managed to evacuate the plane. The company's spokesperson said 101 passengers and a seven-member crew were aboard the aircraft when it crashed; earlier reports suggested there were 172 passengers. The plane is sitting in shallow waters 200 to 300 meters off the end of the runway, local media reported. The cabin broke apart as the aircraft crashed into the sea. The cause of the accident has yet to be determined. The plane had flown from Bandung, the capital of the West Java province, and was landing in Bali Ngurah Rai Airport. Lion Airlines is Indonesia's largest privately owned airline, and a leading budget airline. In 2012, the company transported some 24 million people. The company is banned from operating in the European Union due to its failure to meet safety standards."

HOUSTON CHRONICLE - Beijing reports its 1st case of new bird flu virus, Apr 13, 2013

 "BEIJING (AP) — A 7-year-old girl has become Beijing's first confirmed case of a new strain of the bird flu virus that has killed 11 people and sickened 37 others in eastern China, officials said Saturday. The girl, whose parents are in the live poultry trade, was admitted to a hospital Thursday with symptoms of fever, sore throat, coughing and headache, the Beijing Health Bureau said. She was confirmed to be infected with the H7N9 virus on Saturday after tests by disease control and prevention centers, the bureau said. The case in China's capital is the first one reported outside eastern China, where the virus was first spotted in late March, prompting massive slaughtering of live fowl and bans on the poultry trade in several cities, including the financial hub of Shanghai. Shanghai, the center of the outbreak, has reported 21 cases, including seven fatalities. One person was discharged after recovering, the local government has said."
