BBC News - Mars rover finally looks set to drill, Jan 06, 2013

Yellowknife Bay  "Nasa's Curiosity rover is very close to drilling into its first Martian rock, with the set-up operation likely to begin next week. After breaking for the holidays, the mission team would be raring to undertake the task in the coming days, said lead scientist John Grotzinger. The robot has driven about 650m from its landing site, dropping down into a depression known as Yellowknife Bay. It is in this depression that the target rock will probably be chosen. All of Curiosity's instruments have been commissioned. The drill is the only tool that has yet to be deployed."Alexander Language Schools, Franchise Alexander Language Schools info@als-alexander.org or interalex1@yahoo.com

BBC News - Venezuela National Assembly re-elects Chavez ally Cabello, Jan 06, 2013

Chavez supporters outside National Assembly, Caracas. 5 Jan 2013
"Venezuela's National Assembly has met to choose its leader, a possible stand-in for President Hugo Chavez who is in Cuba following cancer surgery. The assembly re-elected the incumbent Diosdado Cabello, a leading ally of Mr Chavez. Opposition leaders are calling for new elections if the president cannot be sworn in for his new term on Thursday. In such a situation, Mr Cabello would become caretaker president pending the outcome of the vote. Vice-President Nicolas Maduro has dismissed the opposition's calls, saying the Supreme Court can swear in Mr Chavez at a later date. Mr Cabello's re-election was expected in the National Assembly, which is dominated by Mr Chavez's governing United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV)." Gerard Depardieu arrives in Saransk, Mordovia. 6 Jan 2013
"The Russian region of Mordovia has invited French actor Gerard Depardieu to set up home there, hours after he received his Russian passport. Governor Vladimir Volkov said he could choose an apartment or a place to build a house, Interfax news agency reported. Mordovia is best known for its Stalin-era gulag prison camps. Mr Depardieu has taken Russian citizenship after the French government criticised his decision to move abroad to avoid higher taxes. The BBC's Daniel Sandford, in Moscow, says even today harsh prisons are Mordovia's principal employer. One of the convicted members of the punk band Pussy Riot - Nadezhda Tolokonnikova - is serving her sentence there. The actor boarded a flight to Mordovia's snow-covered main city, Saransk, after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Black Sea resort of Sochi, where he also received his passport."Products and Services
