Police officers are seen outside the residence of Pakistan's former President and head of the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) political party Pervez Musharraf, on the outskirts of Islamabad April 19, 2013. A Pakistani judge placed former president and army chief Pervez Musharraf under house arrest on Friday in the boldest step yet by the country's courts against senior military officers long deemed untouchable by the law.  "(Reuters) - Pakistani police took former president Pervez Musharraf into custody at their Islamabad headquarters on Friday, hours after a court had ordered him placed under house arrest, Musharraf's spokesman said. Mohammed Amjad said police had escorted the former army chief from his residence on the edge of the capital to a guest house at the city's police headquarters where he will spend two days on remand ahead of a court hearing. Amjad said the police had moved Musharraf because a senior police official had failed to issue paperwork needed to comply with the judge's order to detain him at his home. There was no immediate comment from police."

"Washington: NASA scientists have discovered two new Earth-like planets in the habitable orbit of a Sun-like star, 1,200 light-years away, which could potentially host life. Using observations gathered by NASAs Kepler Mission, the team, led by William Borucki of the agency’s Ames Research Center, found five planets orbiting a Sun-like star called Kepler-62. Four of these planets are so-called super-Earths, larger than our own planet, but smaller than even the smallest ice giant planet in our Solar System. “The detection and confirmation of planets is an enormously collaborative effort of talent and resources, and requires expertise from across the scientific community to produce these tremendous results,” said Borucki."

CNN - How Justin Theroux scares Jennifer Aniston, Apr 18, 2013

How Justin Theroux scares Jennifer Aniston
"Jennifer Aniston's says her fiancé Justin Theroux can pull off a great prank, and if that's the case, Aniston should start taking notes. The actress tried to scare Ellen DeGeneres backstage while taping Thursday's episode of "Ellen," and failed miserably. The idea was for Aniston to jump out from a doorway as DeGeneres meandered down the hall. But instead of frightening the talk show host, Aniston just sounded scared herself."

No need for God: Stephen Hawking, pictured at an earlier event in California this month, drew thousands of science fans to hear him speak on the origins of the Universe at the California Institute of Technology
"The Big Bang and the subsequent expansion of the Universe did not need God to set it off, theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking suggested to an audience in California this week. A combination of quantum theory and the theory of relativity would a better explain our existence than divine intervention, he told a packed auditorium at the California Institute of Technology. And he suggested that turning to the dark side could illuminate fundamental questions about how the Universe began. "

GUARDIAN - North Korea demands withdrawal of UN sanctions as precondition to talks, Apr 18, 2013

South Korean soldiers
"orth Korea has issued a detailed statement on its terms for dialogue with the United States, after weeks of tensions. The demands from the North's top military body include the withdrawal of all UN sanctions imposed due to Pyongyang's nuclear and missile tests, and a US pledge not to engage in "nuclear war practice" with the South. It said denuclearisation of the peninsula should begin with the withdrawal of US weapons. Seoul was swift to dismiss the North's conditions as incomprehensible and illogical. The foreign ministry spokesman Cho Tai-young said: "We again strongly urge North Korea to stop this kind of insistence that we cannot totally understand and go down the path of a wise choice." The Japanese news agency Kyodo said the prime minister, Shinzo Abe, had called for increased pressure on the North."
