HOUSTON CHRONICLE - Beijing reports its 1st case of new bird flu virus, Apr 13, 2013
"BEIJING (AP) — A 7-year-old girl has become Beijing's first confirmed case of a new strain of the bird flu virus that has killed 11 people and sickened 37 others in eastern China, officials said Saturday. The girl, whose parents are in the live poultry trade, was admitted to a hospital Thursday with symptoms of fever, sore throat, coughing and headache, the Beijing Health Bureau said. She was confirmed to be infected with the H7N9 virus on Saturday after tests by disease control and prevention centers, the bureau said. The case in China's capital is the first one reported outside eastern China, where the virus was first spotted in late March, prompting massive slaughtering of live fowl and bans on the poultry trade in several cities, including the financial hub of Shanghai. Shanghai, the center of the outbreak, has reported 21 cases, including seven fatalities. One person was discharged after recovering, the local government has said."

GUAM residents pray as they face N. Korea threats, Apr 13, 2013
"How seriously should Guam residents take North Korea's missile threats? That question is on the minds of island residents as April 15, a special date for North Koreans, nears. "Every time I think about the threat, I pray," says Marissa Antonio, of Dededo, a village near Andersen Air Force Base, which was threatened by Pyongyang. "I am a bit scared," she adds. "I try not to think about it, but I got to be prepared." Last week, North Korea moved a mid-range missile to its east coast. The missile was designed to be capable of reaching Guam, a U.S. territory with military bases. April 15 is a looming date because it is the 101st birthday of North Korea's deceased founder, Kim Il Sung. He is the grandfather of North Korea's current leader, Kim Jong Un."

CBS POSTS - No settlement reached in Kardashian-Humphries divorce, Apr 12, 2013
"LOS ANGELES -- Kim Kardashian left a Los Angeles courthouse without reaching a settlement in her divorce case from Brooklyn Nets power forward Kris Humphries. Humphries' attorneys declined to comment on settlement discussions Friday, but say a May 6 trial date remains. A judge sealed settlement discussions, but any agreement would have been put on the record after the hearing. Kardashian appeared in court and was flanked by deputies as she left the courthouse shortly around noon. Humphries did not attend the hearing. The reality star wants a divorce to end her 72-day marriage to Humphries, but the NBA player wants it annulled. He claims the marriage was based on fraud, but he would have to approve the allegation at trial."
