ABC News - WWII Vet Who Provided Flag on Iwo Jima Has Died, Apr 28, 2013

PHOTO: U.S. Marines of the 28th Regiment, 5th Division, raise the American flag atop Mt. Suribachi in Iwo Jima, Japan, Feb. 23, 1945.
"Alan Wood, a World War II veteran credited with providing the flag in the famous flag-raising on Iwo Jima, has died. He was 90. Wood died April 18 of natural causes at his Sierra Madre home, his son Steven Wood said Saturday. Wood was a 22-year-old Navy officer in charge of communications on a landing ship on Iwo Jima's shores Feb. 23, 1945 when a Marine asked him for the biggest flag that he could find. After five days of fighting to capture the Japanese-held island, U.S. forces had managed to scale Mount Suribachi to hoist an American flag. Wood happened to have a 37-square-foot flag he had found months before in a Pearl Harbor Navy depot. ."

AL JAZEERA - South Korean workers leave Kaesong complex, Apr 27, 2013

"Around 125 South Korean workers have left a jointly-managed industrial complex in North Korea after Pyongyang rejected calls for talks to re-open the facility. The workers, who left on Saturday, were among the 175 South Koreans who had remained at the Kaesong industrial complex after operations were suspended on April 9. A total of 800 South Koreans normally worked there prior to the shutdown.  A Unification Ministry official said the 125 South Korean employees and one Chinese were able to leave after the North assured their safe passage across the border. The remaining 50 were scheduled to return to the South by Monday, Yonhap news agency reported. Operations at 123 South Korean factories came to a halt when Pyongyang pulled out all of its 53,000 workers against the backdrop of rising tension over Pyongyang's nuclear programme and US-South Korean military exercises. The North blocked South Korean personnel and supplies from entering the complex, but allowed people to leave. "

LA TIMES - South Korea to pull workers from Kaesong complex in North Korea, Apr 26, 2013

Park Geun-hye
"SEOUL -- South Korea said Friday it would pull its remaining workers from an industrial complex run jointly with North Korea after Pyongyang refused an offer to begin talks. Located just north of the demilitarized zone between the two countries, the Kaesong complex has been idle for more than two weeks, since North Korea blocked access to the site and withdrew its employees. South Korea had given the North until Friday to answer its call to begin negotiations, saying more than 170 South Korean workers who remain at the complex were running short on food and medical supplies. When officials in the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, turned down the offer, calling it insincere, the government in Seoul made the "unavoidable decision" to pull out its nationals for their safety, South Korean Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae said in televised remarks Friday."
