THE IRISH Times - Car bombs kill 40 in Turkish town near Syrian border, May 11, 2013

Turkish prime minister Tayyip Erdogan said around 20 people were killed in explosions in the southern town of Reyhanli near the border with Syria today and that the death toll may rise, with many seriously wounded. Photograph: Ihlas News Agency/Reuters
"Twin car bombs killed around 40 people and wounded many more in a Turkish town near the Syrian border today and Turkey said it suspected Syrian involvement. The bombing increased fears that Syria’s civil war was dragging in neighbouring states despite renewed diplomatic moves towards ending fighting in which more than 70,000 people have been killed. The bombs ripped into crowded streets in the early afternoon in Reyhanli, scattering cars and concrete blocks in the town in Turkey’s southern Hatay province, home to thousands of Syrian refugees. President Bashar al-Assad’[s administration was the “usual suspect” in the attacks, Turkish deputy prime minister Bulent Arinc said."

Trip to Mars: More than 78,000 apply to go Red Planet
"More than 78,000 people have applied for the one-way trip to Mars. Mars One, the Dutch company that aims to send four people on the Red Planet by 2023, said that the applications have come from more than 120 countries, although the US led the list with 17,324 applications, CNN reported. CEO Bas Lansdorp said in a statement that Mars One is a mission that represents all humanity, and its true spirit will be justified only when people from the entire world are represented. The applications are going to be accepted until August 31. Meanwhile, Buzz Aldrin said in an exclusive CNN Light Years commentary that the US should make a commitment to going to Mars."

NY Daily News - Astronauts at International Space Station stage emergency spacewalk to fix apparent leak, May 11, 2013

Astronauts Chris Cassidy, foreground, and Tom Marshburn prepare for a spacewalk from the International Space Station on Friday. NASA discovered a leaking coolant line outside the station. The line chills power systems but power was rerouted and is operating normally. The six-member crew is not in danger.
"CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — Two astronauts took a hastily planned spacewalk Saturday to find and, possibly, fix a serious leak at the International Space Station. Flakes of frozen ammonia coolant were spotted Thursday drifting from the long frame that holds the solar panels on the left side. Less than 48 hours later, Thomas Marshburn and Christopher Cassidy emerged from the orbiting lab to hunt for the leak. They were prepared to replace a pump, if necessary."

TO VIMA - Thousands attend emotional tribute to Galis, May 08, 2013

Thousands attend emotional tribute to Galis
"Niko Galis, arguably one of the greatest European basketball players of all time, was honored in Thessaloniki by Aris BC, the team that first introduced him the Greek public. Thousands of fans packed the (formerly named) Alexandrio Palais des Sport to thank their “God”, who was barely able to hold back his tears. Many former team-mates, coaches and opponents were invited to say a few words about Galis; Panagiotis Giannakis, Nikos Filippou, Dino Radja, Audie Norris, Doron Jamchi, Giorgos Sigalas, Zelimir Obradovic and Giannis Ioannidis were just some of the star-studded guests who attended the ceremony and regaled the crowd with stories and a memories of Galis’ career. Aris BC decided to retire Galis’s iconic number 6, with Galis explaining that “there is no greater honor for an athlete than when his favorite team hangs up high his jersey”. At the end of the emotional ceremony it was also announced that the basketball stadium was renamed “Nick Galis Hall”."
