"Brisk walking reduces the risk of heart disease more effectively than running when the energy expenditure of both activities is balanced out, a study has found. Researchers compared data from two studies of 33,060 runners and 15,045 walkers. For the same amount of energy used, walkers experienced greater health benefits than runners. The effects on participants, who were aged 18 to 80, were observed over a period of six years."

"Astronomers have glimpsed further back in time than ever before after the Hubble Space Telescope captured images of a star explosion that took place 10 billion years ago. Supernova UDS10Wil is so far from Earth that it took 10 billion years for the light from the explosion to reach our planet, beating the previous record for such a sighting by 350 million years. "

GULF News - 27 dead in Mumbai building collapse, Apr 05, 2013
"Mumbai: At least 27 people were crushed to death on the outskirts of Mumbai after a building collapsed while under construction, with many victims believed to be labourers living at the site, police said on Friday. A section of the seven-storey building collapsed on Thursday evening before the entire structure came down, a senior officer in the police control room of Thane district said. "Twenty-seven people have died so far, of which seven are women and nine children," said the officer who did not want to be named. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force and other rescue workers were trying to clear the debris from the site amid fears there may be more people trapped in the twisted pile of of concrete and steel."

"Pulitzer Prize-winning movie critic Roger Ebert has succumbed to cancer after announcing his "leave of presence" to battle the disease on Wednesday. Roger Ebert has died at the age of 70 after a battle with cancer. The Pulitzer Prize-winning movie critic passed away suffering many complications with the disease since 2002, reported the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper on Thursday. On Wednesday he announced a break from the industry because of a "painful fracture" which highlighted more cancer and prevented him from walking. The "leave of presence" was announced on his upbeat blog this week."

"Reducing dietary salt intake and boosting levels of potassium would prevent millions of deaths from heart disease and stroke worldwide each year, according to three new studies.
The new studies, which reviewed prior research, were published online April 4 in the BMJ.
