Norway Terror Accused Breivik on Israel and 'the Jewish Question', Jul 28, 2011

Bomb and terror suspect Anders Behring Breivik (red top) leaves the courthouse in a police car in Oslo on July 25, 2011, after the hearing to decide his further detention. (Photo: Jon-Are Berg-Jacobsen / AFP / Getty Images)

There was a time when a blond, blue-eyed nationalist looking to violently rid Europe of its 'alien' immigrant population could be reliably assumed to hate Jews. It's no longer quite that simple.

Anders Behring Breivik insists, in his rambling 1,500-page manifesto released on the day of his confessed rampage that killed 76 Norwegians, that he's no Nazi, despite expressing some sympathy for what Hitler had been trying to achieve. Instead he styles himself a latter-day warrior of the Knights Templar, vanguard force of the medieaval Christian Crusades that briefly claimed the Holy Land for Christendom and made Jerusalem's streets run ankle deep with the blood of those they saw as usurpers. Even then, it's worth remembering that the blood spilled by the Crusaders was both Muslim and Jewish.

China institute takes blame for train crash; Wen visits, Jul 27, 2011

Rescuers carry out rescue operations after two carriages from a bullet train derailed and fell off a bridge in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province

WENZHOU, China (Reuters) - A Chinese railway research institute took responsibility on Thursday for a flaw in signaling equipment that led to a deadly accident and stoked widespread public anger and suspicion of the government's high-speed rail plans.
Premier Wen Jiabao visited the crash site near Wenzhou city in Zhejiang province and vowed a thorough and transparent investigation. He said an illness had prevented him visiting the scene earlier.
A high-speed train rammed into a stalled train late on Saturday killing 39 people. Soon after the crash, domestic media had blamed foreign technology."

'They say I'm putting on a show; it's they who are putting on a macabre show,' said Chavez in another TV appearance that has marked a growing public presence since two trips to Cuba for surgery to remove a cancerous tumor and then chemotherapy.
The ever-theatrical Chavez loudly patted his stomach to show he was not wearing a colostomy bag, responding to one theory doing the rounds that his problems are intestinal."

Norway agrees to security review after killings - Yahoo! News

A Norwegian flag is placed in a sea of flowers and candles which are placed in memory of those killed in last Friday's bomb and shooting attack, in front of Oslo Cathedral July 27, 2011. The Norwegian anti-Islamic zealot who killed 76 people claims he worked with others, but finding far-right groups in their mainly online haunts will be tough for police who for years gave Islamist militants top priority. Police and experts point to the Internet's role in spreading the racist material that shaped killer Anders Behring Breivik's extreme views, but also highlight the difficulty in policing dynamic online forums without undermining civil liberties. REUTERS/Fabrizio Bensch (NORWAY - Tags: CIVIL UNREST CRIME LAW IMAGES OF THE DAY)
OSLO (Reuters) - Norway agreed Wednesday to review security and the police response to the killings of 76 people in bombing and shooting attacks by a right-wing zealot that have traumatized the nation.
Jittery Norwegians tried to restore some normality five days after the bloodshed, despite a security alert forcing the evacuation of Oslo station, keeping nerves on edge.
'It's important to clarify all aspects of the attacks to learn lessons from what has occurred,' Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg said after parliamentary leaders agreed to appoint an independent commission to review the attack."

Ervin Santana pitches no-hitter for Angels - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

CLEVELAND (AP)—Sharp from his first pitch, Ervin Santana(notes) came full cycle against the Cleveland Indians.

Santana threw the first solo no-hitter for the Angels in nearly 27 years and exacted some long overdue revenge, leading Los Angeles over the Indians 3-1 Wednesday.

This was the first no-hitter at Progressive Field, a ballpark that opened as Jacobs Field in 1994. And it marked quite a bit of role reversal for the 28-year-old righty.

Santana made his big league debut on this very same field on May 17, 2005, and the Indians gave him a rude welcome. The first four batters he faced in the majors teamed up to hit for the cycle—Grady Sizemore(notes) led off with a triple, Coco Crisp(notes) doubled, Travis Hafner(notes) singled and Ben Broussard homered."

Black teen's unusual talent: Singing Chinese opera - Yahoo! News

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Tyler Thompson is an unlikely star in the world of Chinese opera.
The black teenager from Oakland has captivated audiences in the U.S. and China with his ability to sing pitch-perfect Mandarin and perform the ancient Chinese art form.
'As soon as he opens his mouth and sings in Chinese, the Chinese are very surprised and then feel very proud of him,' said his music teacher Sherlyn Chew. 'When he puts on the costume, and all the acting, you can see that he's pretty good.'"

Lucas loses UK battle over stormtrooper helmets - Yahoo! News

FILE - In this Oct. 22, 2005 file photo, filmmaker George Lucas poses in front of a Stormtrooper exhibit at the Museum of Science in Boston, prior to the opening of "Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination,". Britain's Supreme Court on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 delivered a mixed ruling in the epic battle between George Lucas' movie empire and a prop designer over the iconic stormtrooper helmets from the "Star Wars" films. Lucasfilm Ltd. has been trying to stop Andrew Ainsworth from selling replica costumes over the Internet. LONDON (AP) — The Empire has struck out.
Britain's Supreme Court on Wednesday defeated a bid by George Lucas' company to stop a prop designer making and selling replicas of the iconic stormtrooper helmets from the 'Star Wars' films. The court did, however, prevent him from selling them in the United States.
Andrew Ainsworth sculpted the white helmets worn by the sinister galactic warriors in the original 'Star Wars' film in 1977, and now sells replica costumes, made from the original molds, over the Internet. Lucasfilm Ltd. has been trying for years to stop him, in a battle that has climbed through the British courts."
