The unmanned Northrop Grumman drone can fly up to 65,000 feet high, reaching the edge of space.
An unmanned aircraft developed at Northrop Grumman in Rancho Bernardo has been soaring along the west coast of Baja California much of the day, taking some of the most precise scientific measurements ever made of a tropical depression.
NASA said at 4:13 p.m. that the research flight was almost complete, and that the drone would be signaled to return to Southern California shortly.
