In the face of harassment and intimidation, WikiLeaks is continuing its efforts to expose US foreign policy around the world, releasing secret diplomatic documents on a daily basis.

Permalink Australia warns U.S. it may need to "deploy force" with China

Focusing on the "threat" of WikiLeaks is far easier for politicians and the media than dealing with the disclosure of U.S. complicity in war crimes.

Permalink The threat of dictatorship in Spain

"Today the most urgent task in Spain, throughout Europe and internationally is the building of an independent political movement of the working class, in opposition to all the parties of the political establishment and the trade unions. It is only on this basis that working people can wage a political struggle to repel and defeat the international offensive being waged by the financial aristocracy."

Permalink WikiLeaks Exposes Israeli Mafia’s Growing Influence

Cable reveals Mafia-government connection — But US media don’t care to dig for the story. I love how the pundits are yawning over the latest WikiLeaks revelations: oh, there’s nothing to see here, it’s all so boring, no "smoking gun," so let’s just move right along. These people are just plain lazy: they want "scoops" delivered to their front doors, all neatly packaged and labeled as such. In short, they don’t want to have to do any work, beyond the usual cut-and-paste. Which is why a lot of the really juicy stuff coming out of WikiLeaks continues to elude them.

Permalink Leaked Cable Reveals Obama Sent To “2012 ALICE Bunker” Due To Norway “Spiral”

What can be inferred from this language, though, is that whatever occurred over Norway on December 8th of last year caused such a state of alarm within the US Military establishment they advised their President and Secretary of Defense to take shelter in a previously unidentified bunker. It is, also, curious to note that nearly immediately after this “event” the American White House began what is described as a massive, and secret, construction project that according to one US news source has left visitors facing a “maze of fences”. Most ominous of all about this cable is its reference to the year 2012, especially in its coupling with a bunker intended for use by America’s top political and military officials and in light of the many ancient prophecies associated with it. Above all else, what this cable clearly shows, and undoubtedly the hundreds of thousands more yet to be released, is that America’s leadership class is failing to keep it citizens informed as to either the true state of the World they live in, and the growing dangers they will all soon face.

Permalink Author claims we're in the grip of a mini ice age

These bitter winters aren’t going to last forever. The bad news is that they will go on for the next 30 years as we have entered a mini ice age.

Permalink ADL SLAMS HELEN THOMAS AS ‘VULGAR ANTI-SEMITE’

Helen Thomas doubled down on the controversial comments that led to the end of her long career during a speech yesterday to an Arab-American group in Dearborn, Mich., prompting a fierce condemnation by the Anti-Defamation League. “I can call a president of the United States anything in the book, but I can’t touch Israel, which has Jewish-only roads in the West Bank,” Thomas said. “No Americans would tolerate that — white-only roads.”

Permalink Privacy Is Passe, So Broadcast Yourself (to Big Brother)

"You had to live – you did live, from habit that became instinct – in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized." -Winston Smith worries in George Orwell's classic novel, "1984." All Winston yearns for is a place outside of the all-seeing electronic eye of the Telescreen, a private place that Big Brother's penetrating gaze can't reach. So Winston picks up a journal on the black market, a "thoughtcrime" he knows will sign his own death warrant. And yet, while Winston's varicose vein aches, while panic overtakes him, he writes himself to death by the unshakable urge to have a world to himself, to have words to himself, to have a private place. Winston dies for this unreachable place, for his privacy.

Permalink Money rules in U.S. politics

A bitter, losing fight against the power of money. Out of America: Tax cuts for billionaires, and bankers with more clout than ever – nothing has changed. The US is a land of extremes: climatic, economic and ideological. But amid the turbulent craziness of American politics, there is one constant: money rules. And never more so than in the closing weeks of this sour and eminently forgettable year of 2010 – when the recession never really went away, the Tea Party marched into Washington, and the presidency of Barack Obama shrivelled before one's eyes.

Permalink The Shameful Attacks on Julian Assange

Julian Assange and Pfc Bradley Manning have done a huge public service by making hundreds of thousands of classified U.S. government documents available on Wikileaks -- and, predictably, no one is grateful. Manning, a former army intelligence analyst in Iraq, faces up to 52 years in prison. He is currently being held in solitary confinement at a military base in Quantico, Virginia, where he is not allowed to see his parents or other outside visitors.

Permalink Tax Cut Lies: The Day The News Died

The New York Times today jumped on board with a classic Frank Luntz "Big Lie." Democrats in the House and Senate put forth a bill that would reduce taxes on the first quarter-million, and then, when that failed, the first million dollars of income for every single American.

Permalink WikiLeaks Cables are Dispatches from a Beleaguered America in Imperial Retreat

Envoys provide devastating truths, but world can admire Washington's patient mission to avert nuclear apocalypse. There's more to the WikiLeaks dispatches than leaks. Look behind them, at the writers, and you see the loyal rearguard of America: an imperial power in retreat. There was a tradition in our Foreign Office that a retiring ambassador could blow off steam. In a final, exuberant telegram to Whitehall, he could say exactly what he thought of the country he was leaving, and of the folly of the Foreign Office in ignoring his advice. The best telegrams were treasured by young diplomats. But they began to leak into the press. And a few years ago this privilege was suppressed.

The demise of the United States as the global superpower could come far more quickly than anyone imagines. If Washington is dreaming of 2040 or 2050 as the end of the American Century, a more realistic assessment of domestic and global trends suggests that in 2025, just 15 years from now, it could all be over except for the shouting.

Permalink Fed report lifts lid on Great Bank Heist of 2008-2009

The US Federal Reserve Board on Wednesday released documents on emergency measures it took between 2007 and 2010, using taxpayer funds, to bail out major financial firms in the US and around the world. The sums involved are staggering. Fed bailout loans outstanding reached a high of $3.3 trillion, but the cumulative amount of cash funneled by the US central bank to banks, hedge funds and major industrial corporations reached the tens of trillions of dollars.

Permalink As unemployment rate tops 9.8 percent 27 million hit by US jobs crisis

The US unemployment rate rose to 9.8 percent in November, the highest in seven months, and an indication that the economic slump that was triggered by the September 2008 Wall Street crash has far from run its course. November was the 19th consecutive month that more than 9 percent of the labor force were out of work, the longest span since the federal government began reporting such figures after World War II.

Permalink Creating a Country of the Rich, By the Rich, For the Rich The New American Oligarchy

There is a war underway. I'm not talking about Washington’s bloody misadventures in Afghanistan and Iraq, but a war within our own borders. It’s a war fought on the airwaves, on television and radio and over the Internet, a war of words and images, of half-truth, innuendo, and raging lies. I'm talking about a political war, pitting liberals against conservatives, Democrats against Republicans. I'm talking about a spending war, fueled by stealthy front groups and deep-pocketed anonymous donors. It’s a war that's poised to topple what's left of American democracy.

Permalink Julian Assange: Wanted by the Empire, Dead or Alive

The American airwaves quiver with the screams of parlor assassins howling for Julian Assange's head. Jonah Goldberg, contributor to the National Review, asks in his syndicated column, "Why wasn't Assange garroted in his hotel room years ago?" Sarah Palin wants him hunted down and brought to justice, saying: "He is an anti-American operative with blood on his hands." Assange can survive these theatrical blusters. A tougher question is how he will fare at the hands of the US government, which is hopping mad. The US attorney general, Eric Holder, has announced that the Justice Department and Pentagon are conducting "an active, ongoing criminal investigation" into the latest Assange-facilitated leak under Washington's Espionage Act. Asked how the US could prosecute Assange, a non-US citizen, Holder said, "Let me be clear. This is not saber-rattling," and vowed "to swiftly close the gaps in current US legislation…"

Dr. Laura left broadcast radio after screaming the n-word at a black woman. She'll soon join a host of homophobic, sexist, racist right-wingers on Sirius. Last August, after an illustrious, decades-long career calling women whores, screaming about couples who "shack up," and attacking gays, Dr. Laura Schlessinger had to quit her radio show after hurling the n-word, 11 times, at an African-American caller. On Larry King Live Schlessinger announced that she would not let her First Amendment right to million-dollar paychecks and thousands of listeners be trampled by critics calling her out as a racist.

Permalink Palin handlers bully CNN cameraman at book signing

Palin handlers bully CNN cameraman at book signing. Sarah Palin's aides opted to use a little bit of force to end an otherwise polite conversation with a CNN news crew Thursday. The important point that you will discover if you listen closely to this bit of news is that the American people love and worship Sarah Palin. So what if she doesn't see the Palestinian people as human beings and she wants war between North and South Korea even though she doesn't know the difference between the two countries. The American people don't care and will follow her like lemmings, or sheep, right of a fascist cliff.

Permalink Jamie Dimon: Becoming Too Big to Save - Creating Fiscal Disaster

Roger Lowenstein profiles Jamie Dimon, head of JP Morgan Chase. The piece, titled “Jamie Dimon: America’s Least-Hated Banker,” is generally sympathetic, but in every significant detail it confirms that Mr. Dimon is now – without question – our most dangerous banker. Mr. Dimon is not dangerous because he is in any narrow sense incompetent. On the contrary, Mr. Dimon is very good at getting what he wants. And now he wants to run a bigger, more interconnected, and more global bank that – if it were to fail – would cause great chaos around the world.

Permalink The cause of Ireland's crisis

On November 27, more than 100,000 people took to the streets of Dublin for an inspiring demonstration against austerity.

In an interview, Thomas, 90, said that criticizing Israel led to her resignation and ostracism in Washington.
