MAIL ONLINE - Galactic is go! Richard Branson's tourist spaceship makes it first powered flight, Apr 29, 2013
"The jet released SpaceShipTwo, which ignited its engine for 16 seconds, then glided to a safe landing. Until now, SpaceShipTwo has only performed unpowered glide flights. Several powered flights are planned this summer, culminating with a dash into space targeted toward the end of the year. 'The first powered flight of Virgin Spaceship Enterprise was without any doubt, our single most important flight test to date,' said Virgin Galactic Founder Sir Richard Branson, who was on the ground in Mojave to witness the occasion. 'For the first time, we were able to prove the key components of the system, fully integrated and in flight. "

Canadian company helps World Trade Center's ascent to new heights, Apr 29, 2013
"NEW YORK, N.Y. - One World Trade Center, the skyscraper that replaces the fallen twin towers in New York City, is about to receive the last pieces of its crowning spire, a 124-metre structure built in part in Canada. Officials had hoped that would happen Monday, but the weather did not co-operate and it was postponed due to high winds. The event will be rescheduled when conditions permit. The new tower's crowning spire is a joint venture between the Montreal-based ADF Group Inc. engineering firm and New York-based DCM Erectors Inc., a steel contractor. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says the spire pieces and a steel beacon will be lifted at a later date from the rooftop to cap the building at 541 metres. Installation of the 800-ton spire began in December, after 18 pieces were shipped from Canada and New Jersey. Once the spire is installed, the 104-story highrise, already New York's tallest building, will be just feet from becoming the highest in the Western Hemisphere."

HUBBLE snaps image of ‘comet of century’, Apr 29, 2013
"BALTIMORE — The operators of the Hubble Space Telescope say the orbiting observatory has snapped photos of an approaching comet. The Baltimore-based Space Telescope Science Institute says the Comet Ison is being called the “comet of the century” because it could be brighter than the full moon when it makes its closest pass by the sun in late November. The institute says the pictures taken earlier this month show the comet slightly inside Jupiter’s orbit, about 621.18 million kilometres from the sun. The institute serves as the science operations centre for the Hubble."
