UNITED NATIONS, July 8 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Friday adopted a presidential statement on the sinking of the South Korean corvette Cheonan in March.
The statement, adopted by consensus, said that the Security Council "deplores the loss of life and injuries and expresses its deep sympathy and condolences to the victims and their families and to the people and government of the ROK (Republic of Korea)."

Reception held to mark 49th anniversary of Sino-DPRK friendship treaty

BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhua) -- A reception was held here Friday to mark the 49th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Abdul'ahat Abdulrixit, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and DPRK's ambassador to China Choe Pyong Gwan attended the reception hosted by the DPRK embassy in China.
