The Spanish government declared a "state of alarm" yesterday for the first time in three decades, assuming sweeping powers that allowed the military to take control of the country's airspace and order Spain's striking air traffic controllers to work or face prison.

Fitial taps Aniceto Ogumoro as acting DPS commissioner

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial has designated former police director Aniceto T. Ogumoro as acting commissioner of the Department of Public Safety.
Aniceto Ogumoro is currently assigned with the DPS Boating Safety Unit. He is the brother of the controversial Ambrosio Ogumoro, who was terminated twice as DPS deputy commissioner this year by DPS commissioner Santiago F. Tudela.

Fitial reinstates Ogumoro, again, Mariana Islands

GOVERNOR Benigno R. Fitial says he has again renewed the contract of Ambrosio T. Ogumoro as deputy commissioner of the Department of Public Safety.

Fitial’s action came more than two weeks after DPS Commissioner Santiago F. Tudela relieved Ogumoro — again — from his duties which was concurred by Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos, who was then the acting governor.

Tenorio willing to remain speaker, Marianas

SPEAKER Froilan C. Tenorio on Saturday said he will agree to remain at his post “if the majority wants me to stay and if they have the votes.”

Tenorio, Covenant-Saipan, said it is the House that will decide who will be speaker.

“I am not very happy with the way it is,” he said, referring to his office’s “lack of funding.”
