"The artistic director of Russia's Bolshoi Theatre, Sergei Filin, is being treated in a Moscow hospital for severe burns to his face after a masked man threw acid in his face, police say.
The attack happened late on Thursday as Mr Filin, an award-winning ballet star, was walking home in central Moscow.
Doctors are now fighting to save his eyesight and Interfax news agency says he will be sent to a clinic abroad.
A Bolshoi spokesman said Mr Filin, 42, had suffered months of threats.
The BBC's Steve Rosenberg in Moscow says it is suspected that he was the victim of infighting and rows between different groups of dancers at the Bolshoi.
According to the Bolshoi statement, the assailant shouted to Mr Filin as he was approaching the entrance to his apartment block, then threw acid in Mr Filin's face."info@als-alexander.orgor interalex1@yahoo.com
"Cyber-attacks on Iran are turning it into a "force to be reckoned with" America's top cyber-soldier has warned.
Since 2010, Iran has come under attack many times by malicious viruses written specifically to target key industrial installations in the country.
The repeated attacks have provoked Iran to improve its cyber-capabilities, said Gen William Shelton who oversees US cyber-operations.
It meant Iran was becoming a growing force in web-based attacks, he said." info@als-alexander.orgor interalex1@yahoo.com
"The Universe's highest-energy light could finally yield clues to the nature of the "dark matter" that makes up some 85% of the Universe's mass.
The Fermi space telescope, designed to catch gamma rays, has seen hints of evidence for dark matter in high-energy gamma rays seen at the galaxy's centre.
The Fermi team is now opening a call for ideas on changing how it observes.
That may focus efforts on those early hints, opening the possibility to solve one of physics' greatest mysteries.
We only know of the existence of dark matter because of its gravitational effects; true to its name, it cannot be seen because it interacts only very weakly with light or normal matter."info@als-alexander.orgor interalex1@yahoo.com
