Unexpected 'stars' of World Cup, Jul 15, 2010

What does a  lingerie model have in common with a psychic octopus? Answer: they are among the unexpected stars of this year's World Cup.
Model Larissa Riquelme rose to international prominence when the pictures of her cheering for her home team Paraguay in skimpy clothes circulated on the internet.
The 25-year-old model and cheerleader gained even more attention after she promised to run through the street should Paraguay win the game.
For female soccer fans, the star of this year's World Cup was German coach Joachim Loew, whose handsome looks and dandy fashion earned him the nickname 'fashionista coach.'
But the World Cup was not all about looks and fashion. Paul, an octopus in Germany correctly guessed the result of every match played by Germany, as well as Spain's eventual victory in the final match.
Dubbed the 'psychic octopus' by foreign press, Paul even received death threats from angry German soccer fans after the German squad was beaten by Spain, which Paul also guessed correctly.
The vuvuzela, traditional South African stadium horn, gained infamy as soccer viewers complained about its 120-decibel noise that drowned out all other sounds.
However, as fans have slowly warmed to the noisy instrument, many products related to the vuvuzela ended up selling like hotcakes, including the chart-topping iPhone app that emulates the sound of the vuvuzela.
