FDA Bans BPA in Baby Bottles, Sippy Cups
SuccessOn July 18, the US Food and Drug Administration voted to ban bisphenol A, or BPA, from baby bottles and children's sippy cups after acknowledging that it might affect "the brain, behavior and prostate gland of fetuses, infants and children.

Urban Decay Gets Cruelty-Free Status Back
SuccessUrban Decay, a well-known cosmetics company with cruelty-free and vegan products, announced a plan to expand its line in China where animal testing is required. After listening to criticism from animal advocates, the company has since reconsidered its plan and stated that it won’t be making any such move until it can do so without any animal testing involved. Read more.

SuccessThanks to compassionate animal lovers in Ukraine, a bear cub has been rescued from the cage where she was being kept for the entertainment of Euro 2012 visitors. With the support of Ukrainian authorities, FOUR PAWS found and rescued Nastia. Read more.
Leatherback Turtles Protected In Puerto Rico
SuccessPuerto Rico's governor signed a law protecting 1,950 acres of state-owned land from large-scale development. The new reserve makes up 66 percent of what is known as the Northeast Ecological Corridor and is considered one of the prime nesting sites for the endangered leatherback turtle. Read more.
Forage Fish Protected in the Pacific
SuccessThe Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) will develop new regulations to protect forage fish. Many of these unmanaged forage species may be unfamiliar to the general public, but they are crucial food sources for ocean wildlife and play a critical role in the overall health of the ocean's ecosystem. Read more.
Chevron to Pay $19 Billion for Environmental Damage
SuccessChevron has been ordered by an Ecuadorian court to pay more than $19 billion in environmental damages. Chevron deliberately dumped more than 18 billion gallons of toxic wastewater into the rainforest. The contamination devastated the homes of some 30,000 indigenous people. Read more.
