Kizzy London, 40, traveled to Miami from Louisiana for procedure, police say
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. - A woman died this week after undergoing a cosmetic procedure at a surgery center in Miami-Dade County, authorities confirmed Friday.The incident was reported Thursday at Jolie Plastic Surgery at 8504 SW Eighth St.
Miami-Dade police Detective Robin Pinkard said London was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center after the procedure, where she later died.
"Paramedics were talking and stuff that it was cardiac arrest. Her heart stopped," witness Imara Deleon said.
An employee told Local 10 News reporter Glenna Milberg that London was having a fat transfusion involving her backside.
Pinkard said the police department is investigating the death.
In a statement, the clinic identified the doctor who performed the surgery as Dr. Arnaldo Valls, who employees said has performed thousands of surgeries with no deaths.
"We send our deepest condolences to the loved ones of our patient, who tragically underwent a cardiac arrest during a procedure," the statement read in part. "Cosmetic surgeries, like all surgeries, carry some degree of risk. The patient developed cardiac arrest toward the end of the operation."
The statement stated that Valls has been "impacted greatly" by the loss of one of his patients.
Records show that Valls attended medical school in Cuba and Spain.
No other details about the death were immediately released by authorities.
Local 10 News has reported about several cosmetic procedure-related deaths that have occurred in recent years at Miami-Dade County surgery centers, including one in June, when a 30-year-old woman from Illinois died at Kendall Regional Medical Center after undergoing surgery at Seduction Cosmetic Center in Doral.
In March, a 25-year-old woman from Kansas City died after getting a Brazilian butt lift at Eres Plastic Surgery in Hialeah.
Records show the location of the clinic related to Tuesday's death was also formally Eres Plastic Surgery.
