Your morning cup of joe can provide you with more than just a jolt of caffeine, it can also have significant benefits for your health. What it isn’t great for is your light-colored carpet. Despite your cautiousness, coffee spills are bound to happen.

Whether you trip while walking through the room or you’re entertaining not so careful guests, coffee spills will inevitably occur. Unfortunately, when they occur on the carpet, it leaves an ugly brown stain that can be hard to remove. Learn how to remove coffee stains from carpet with a few simple tricks.
Coffee can be one of the most difficult stains to remove from your carpet. Coffee, tea, and wine all contain tannins, making them difficult to get rid of because the heat of the coffee helps to open up the fiber of the carpet, which allows it to penetrate into the individual fibers. When hot coffee is spilled on your carpet, it binds to the fiber making removing it extremely difficult. Therefore quick action and cleaning the carpet by hand is the best you can do while the stain has not yet dried.

Removing Coffee Stains from Carpet Naturally

When it comes to getting coffee stains out of the carpet, the best method is to make a homemade carpet stain remover out of everyday household products that you already own. This natural stain remover works best when used on a fresh stain that is still wet.
This recipe is very similar to the vinegar stain cleaner we use to remove coffee stains from clothes. First, pour a small amount, about the size of a dime, of the liquid detergent on the stain and gently clean the carpet. Avoid aggressively rubbing the soap into the rug because it will make it extremely difficult to get rid of the stain. Pour the water into a spray bottle and spray over the spot that you just cleaned. Use paper towels to blot the area dry. Sprinkle the baking soda over the top of the stain to absorb any excess moisture. Let the baking soda sit until dry and vacuum up any residue.

If the coffee stain is still visible, you can treat it with one tablespoon liquid dish soap, one tablespoon vinegar, and two cups warm water. Using a clean, dry cloth, sponge the stain with the solution. Frequently blot the area with a dry towel until the stain is eliminated. Sponge the area with cool water to soak up any residue and blot dry. Sidenote: This cleaning recipe works great to remove coffee stains from clothes and textile.

Using a Commercial Stain Remover

If you have a more substantial coffee spill or the coffee stain is already dry, you can use a homemade carpet cleaner or a powerful commercial cleaning product to remove the stain. There are many commercial carpet cleaners on the market that are formulated individually to tackle tough coffee stains.
To use, moisten the affected area with water and apply the cleaning product according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

How to Remove Old Coffee Stains from Carpet

Coffee spills tend to happen at the most inconvenient moments, like when we are rushing out the door or in the middle of a dinner party, leaving us little time to tackle the issue at that moment.
If you find you have to wait to clean the coffee stain from your carpet, you can use this method for removing those old, dried, or set coffee stains from your carpet. Because coffee is an organic-type stain, it responds best to organic cleaners.
Combine the baking soda and water. Stirring well to form a thick paste. Moisten the area with the paste and massage the area to cover as much of the carpet fibers as possible.
Allow the area to dry. With a soft bristle brush, sweep up the residue and vacuum to pick up the baking soda. If the stain isn’t completely gone, repeat the steps until you eliminate the stain.
