They did not allow their children to move even in the apartment

The front door of the house was closed "with nails"

Swedish authorities have removed three children aged 10 to 17 from their family after their parents kept them locked up at home for four months because they were "terrified" by the coronavirus pandemic, their lawyer announced today.

From March to early July, "the children and the family could not leave the apartment (…) the parents were completely terrified of the pandemic," said Michael Svegfors, the children's lawyer.

According to a decision of the court of the city of Jonkoping, where the events took place, the children remained locked in their rooms and could not even move inside the apartment.

In addition, the front door of the house was closed "with nails", so that no one could go out, something that the parents deny through their lawyer.

Contrary to the lockdown adopted by most countries in Europe, Sweden did not impose restrictive measures on residents and kept schools open for children under the age of 16, urging citizens to "take responsibility".

The parents, Svegfors explained, come from "another country" and do not speak Swedish well.

"They continued to follow the news of their homeland via the internet," he added. In this country, which is not mentioned, strict restrictive measures were imposed due to the coronavirus.
